Biography

A social reformer, philanthropist, and politician, Harsimrat Kaur Badal has risen as a prominent leader since the beginning of her political journey in 2009. Motivated by the ideals of Guru Granth Sahib Ji, the principles of "Ek Pita Ekas ke Hum Baarik" are central to her beliefs, wherein she champions liberty, equality, and justice. Committing to the causes of women, farmers, the impoverished, and marginalized communities, she actively works towards their upliftment. With faith in the potential of the nation's youth, she strongly advocates for skill enhancement and substance abuse prevention.

Harsimrat Kaur Badal served as the representative of the Bathinda Constituency in the Lok Sabha for three consecutive terms spanning from 2009 to 2019. Over her 14-year political career, she significantly contributed to various sectors, including education, healthcare, and employment in the region.

An exceptional milestone in her career was being appointed as the Union Cabinet Minister of Food Processing Industries position in 2014. However, in 2020, she took a remarkable step by resigning from this post in solidarity with the farmers protesting against the newly introduced farm laws. The three farm laws were against the interest of the farming community. She stood tall, in solidarity with the farmers as their sister and daughter. Starting from her maiden speech condemning the 1984 Sikh genocide to her 2020 resignation, she has illustrated her dedication as a strong representative of her community.

Known for delivering powerful speeches in Parliament, addressing urgent issues of the nation and her home state of Punjab, Harsimrat Kaur Badal prioritizes the issues over party or ideology. She received praise for being the first to raise the issue of drug addiction and its impact on youth in Parliament.

Affectionately known as Biba Ji by the people of Punjab, she holds a special place in their hearts as a cherished leader. Not just a leader but also a beloved sister, daughter, and an inspiring role model, especially for women in Punjab. Demonstrating her commitment to her people, she's been determined to positively change Punjab's society.

Even before embarking on her political journey, she actively participated in initiatives focused on empowering women and promoting environmental sustainability. Her remarkable project, 'Nanhi Chhaan,' goes beyond being a simple organization; it's a visionary movement aimed at tackling issues like female foeticide, women empowerment and environmental preservation. This relentless crusade is dedicated to eradicating long-standing social issues from our society.

Her tireless dedication bore fruit as Punjab's sex ratio improved significantly, rising from 694 girls to 832 girls per 1000 boys. She aspires to be a leader for her community, striving for their betterment through hard work and a transformative shift in mindset.
