Initiatives and Achievements

Empowering Women: Nanhi Chhaan works relentlessly to empower women to earn their living and live a dignified life. For this cause, the NGO has installed 162 sewing centers in many villages. Women are provided Silai machines along with an 8-10 month course so they are well-equipped to earn from their homes.

Sirjanhaari Women Achiever’s Series & Awards 2018: This award series is a way to honor exceptionally courageous women who fought adversities to change the lives around them. It gives a platform to women who took a stand against crimes like female foeticide, dowry, and harassment; who have helped other women become economically independent, and who have given major contributions towards community development.

Boota Prasad: Started in the year 2008 from the Golden Temple, the purpose of this unique initiative was to promote environmental sustainability in which a plant (buta) is distributed to the people as Prasad.

Reviving the Dying Art of Phulkari: Nanhi Chhaan is working towards reviving the dying art of phulkari- a traditional embroidery technique of Punjab, used to decorate shawls and scarves.

Stopping Female Foeticide: Protecting the girl child is essential for women's empowerment and eradicating female foeticide. Efforts are being made to support women to become self-sufficient.

Achievements

• Punjab witnessed an improvement in its sex ratio. It has increased from 876 females per 1000 males in 2001 to 895 females per 1000 males in 2023.
• Over 1108 pass-out students from the Nanhi Chhaan Silai centres.
• 313+ Silai machines distributed among women taking the sewing courses.
• 103+ course batches successfully created till now.
• People are much more aware in the state
